This seems like an odd question to ask, but it’s the name the book by Richard Nelson Bolles. It was originally written in 1970 and has been updated each year ever since. The book helps you find the jobs you value in your Career Exploration. Bolles asks what are the skills you would most like to use, what industry you would like to use them in, and then tells you how to find these jobs
The great thing about this book is that it’s interactive. It’s filled with exercises and questions that guide you into your next career. The most important exercise is the flower diagram. The flower diagram is a bunch of answers that together form who you are. You can then use it to decide on how you want to conduct your job search and what you should be looking for.
Topics in the book cover include: Best websites for job searching, interview tips, salary negotiation, working from home, starting your own business, tips for the shy or introverted, job hunting over 50, and building your network.
I have read this book and highly recommend it. If you’re looking for WNY jobs & careers then this book is a must! Luckily, we have a great library system here in WNY and multiple copies are available. The author has a website dedicated to this workbook called the Job Hunter’s Bible.com, and there is even a local networking group that is based off of the book called The Parachute Group.
Now go order it online either at an Erie County Library or Amazon.com! To search the library’s website click on Catalog at the top, then select any library and type in “What Color is Your Parachute” in the search field.
